Loving Arms was started by the late Thelma Louise Smith Whipple as Hill Street ChildCare.
Mrs. Whipple's mother Lillie Bell Smith Williams was among the first privately black-owned childcare center in Atlanta, GA.
Thelma was educated in the Atlanta Public School System where she attended and graduated from David T Howard Jr High School in 1944, Booker T Washington, in 1947, Beaumont School of Practical Nursing in 1952.
She worked as the night Nurse supervisor at Wesley Woods - Budd Terrace until retirement; She received many awards and accolades such as; Awarded Certification in Practical Nursing License by the Board of Examiners of Practical Nursing, which she maintained until death.
While working Full Time as a nurse, she received her Certification by the State Department of Family and Children Services, Division of Children and Youth, and purchased her own ChildCare business.
Thelma opened, and operated Hill Street Childcare Center, and she remained the owner, until she decided to relinquish those duties to the current Owner/Director Glenda Williams.
